Summer Journal Prompts I’m Using to Slow Down and Enjoy The Season

Summer has this funny way of passing by before we even realize it. One minute, it’s the beginning of the season, and the next we’re packing away swimsuits and wondering where all the long summer evenings went.

This year, I’m choosing a slower kind of summer. The kind made of unhurried mornings, bowls of seasonal fruits, evenings that stretch a little longer, and finding ways to make everyday moments feel special.

These are some journal prompts I’m using this summer to help me slow down, savour the little things, and appreciate the beauty that is already here. If you are craving for a softer, more intentional season, I hope these prompts help you to do the same. There are no perfect answers, all you need is just a pen and a book and you.

Setting the Tone for Summer

  • How do I want this summer to feel? (one word or one sentence)?
  • What does my ideal slow summer day look like from morning to evening?
  • What am I letting go this season?
  • How do I want to feel at the end of the season?

Romanticizing Summer

  • What’s one small moment from today that I want to remember?
  • If my life were a movie this summer, what would the vibe be? What would the soundtrack be?
  • What simple ritual or traditions would make this summer feel more magical?

Noticing the Little Things

  • What is something ordinary that I love about my daily life right now?
  • Describe this summer evening in as much detail as possible.
  • What are three small things that brought me joy today?

Summer Nostalgia

  • Which summer memories make me smile?
  • What did I look forward to most every summer growing up?
  • What summer song brings back memories every time I hear it?

Checking In With Yourself

  • Am I spending this summer in a way that feels true to me?
  • What does rest feel like to me right now? Am I getting enough of it?
  • What do I need more of and less of to make this summer slower and more beautiful?

I’m not using all of these prompts at once. I pick one or two and simply write without overthinking it. There is no perfect answer. It’s not about filling the pages. It’s about slowing down enough to notice this season and enjoy it. These little moments of reflection help me do that.
